Nothing Looks Like a Dragon
I first started riding road bikes back in 1980.
My first bike was a Honda CB650C.It lasted about a year and got small really quick. The next year I traded up to a CB900C.Awesome bike, in fact, I rode that bike for the next 22 years. Talk about reliable! I just couldn’t find a bike to replace the 900 with.
Not until 97 when the Valkyrie came out. I fell in love with it the minute I saw the commercial with the guy going side ways up the dry lake bed. I would go to the local dealer every so often just to drool and sit on the big bike. It wasn’t until 2003 that I was able to make a change the 900 was getting tired and I thought about a rebuild on her ,but my mechanic convinced me it was time to move on.
Like I needed any more prodding.
I started looking for a nice used Valkyrie within my price range, it didn’t matter where it was I was going to go there and pick one up. I had it narrowed down to 2 bikes one in North Carolina and one in Wisconsin (I live in Maine so neither was a short ride back). Then I got thinking I had better find one close by and test ride it. The shop in town did not have one and it took an act of God just to test ride one anyway. I drove 25 miles to the next dealer and found none on the showroom floor. I asked if they knew of any used Valks near by, and they said yes, out back in the storage area was a Red and Cream standard with Cobra Light bar, leather saddlebags, windshield, and highway pegs, and the real seller, 6 into 6 pipes!
THIS DRAGON ROARS!
She had 10,000 miles on her, just broken in. Took her for a ride and fell in love with her immediately. Except for the windshield. The dealer was selling it on consignment and the owner was motivated to sell the Valk. So instead of traveling across the country I ended up finding one in my own backyard. I have never been on a Bike that runs so smoooooth.
Handles so effortlessly in corners, and at 65mph it feels like your hardly moving at all, and yes the speedometer works. The best thing is just to sit back and watch all the reactions you get from bikers and non-bikers alike.
Nothing looks like a Dragon!
