One Saturday

It happened one Saturday this past February 04, I was out running errands for my wife, you know just the normal stuff.  Before leaving the house I saw a commercial on TV about a motorcycle (don’t remember which one) and joked about going out and getting one that day.  My wife gave the usual answer, “Yea right”, she had heard this before and I never came home with one.  I had been looking at bikes for the past year or more, nothing serious, just looking so there was nothing to worry about.

Now I have been riding for a long time (20 years) so looking at bikes has nothing to do with getting one.  I sold my last bikes going on 3 years; I had an 81’ Gold Wing, 72’ 750cc hard tail chopper that I built & a Harley Davidson FLH that I was building from scratch.

Well, the errands I had to do put me on the side of town that our local Honda dealer is on, this place has a large junk yard. I used to love to snoop out the neat junk he has when I was building my 750cc bike.  So I thought I would go over and poke around.  Well I never made it to the junk yard; I made a bee line for the showroom instead, just to look.

I walked in, not ready for what was to happen next. My heart stopped, my jaw dropped and my knees got weak.  There she was, sitting there like a show girl in her best costume.  I asked the salesman how much and what model is it?  I knew about the Valkyrie, but had no knowledge of a Valkyrie Interstate.  Well after being informed of this and how they are no longer offered, I had to have it.  I posted guard dogs, barbed wire and anti thief devices around the bike until I could talk to the bank.

So I secured financing, insurance & helmets and rode it away a week later.  I have owned this beautiful black & red 2000 Interstate for a month now and I am very happy with it.  I put 700 miles on it in the first 10 days. Oh, yes the wife does approve of it, she even said she will ride it with me (a first) one day.  So I hope to see you on the road out there having as much fun as I am having.  Keep the rubber side down & the bugs out to your teeth.
