Repainting of Honda Valkyrie Tourer

Thanks Dave this F6Oval Design is for you!

Bike: 1997 Honda Tourer original colour R&W

At the time of ordering the bike there were no Purple & Whites available in Canada. My second colour choice was the Red &White. In November of 98 I decided I wanted to change the colour of the bike to make it more original than it already was. There still aren’t too many Valks on Vancouver Island in British Columbia.

I would rate my mechanical knowledge as fair to medium, but I did have access to a good shop and tools at work. As a backup, my maintenance man at work, and where I also live, had extensive body shop experience and good mechaninal skills. His advice to me was take lots of pictures and make notes of all the parts and panels you remove. Guess what, he was right. It’s amazing how much you forget, when you try and put the bike back together after 2 months.

Mark down on paper all wiring diagrams from the rear fenders and take lots of pictures during the removal of parts. Bag and tag all the nuts, bolts and fasteners and store in a safe place.

The one thing I highly recommend for this project or any minor repairs or general cleaning is a good Cycle lift or jack. This was the one thing that I couldn’t have done without. This and the shop manual are the best two investments I’ve made in regards to the bike. Anyone considering doing minor servicing and repairs should definitely consider these two items.
