| On Tuesday morning,
October 17th, I saw a message on the VRCC website's South
Regional Planning Message Board about there being a (motorcycle, of
course) Sloan's Mystery Dinner Ride that evening up in Murfreesboro,
TN...beginning at 6pm~and riding to an unannounced restaurant...so,
crazy ol' me took the afternoon off from work...and rode the 285
miles (each way ) to attend it. *Whew!* I do love an adventure~yes I do.
I rode to the designated location~Sloan's Honda~in Murfreesboro in about 4 1/2 hours... had to make it by 5pm...think I rolled in about 4:45pm ~ close ... AND a banana too~ha! ha! Well, I met the dude named VALKEYE, who'd posted this dinner ride event, who'd openly whined about possibly being the ONLY Valkyrie Owner to attend (again~in his words). Heck! I couldn't let that happen, could I? Nahhhhhhh! We did end up being the only 2 Valks there We compared bikes, and I lusted after many of his accessories, some of which I now sport! About 25 people eventually gathered in the parking lot at Sloan's Honda Dealer and we all rode approx. 30 minutes thru the (then) darkening and misting night air~down narrow, twisty, tree-lined roads...with lots of coloured leaves blowing off rows of tall, overhanging trees~the leaves swirling all around us and our motorcycles~as we rode to a neat lil wooden restaurant way out from anywhere/nowhere (sorry, can't remember its name~but it was in a small strip-mall near some railroad tracks). It was somewhere down State Hwy 231S, then onto another road...spooky!! But enchanting, somehow, also! They served pretty good country cookin': most of us ordered chicken fried steak. I ordered it with fried potatoes, red beans n rice, gravy, cornbread and lemonade~mmm good! The one waitress took excellent care of our entire group, and was pleasant in spite of our numbers. Sign of a good place. I'd eat there again sometime. And recommend it too. Just call Sloan's ~ they'll know the name! As we dined, I even got a round of applause from the group for having ridden the furthest to attend. "Yea". Everyone there treated me like a long lost friend and invited me back anytime. Everyone was just super! It rained while we were inside, so I had to run out and rescue/dry off my helmet, which I'd left dangling from one of my mirrors~wrong side up, naturally. But the rain finally subsided and it cleared up fairly well just before exchanging our goodbyes, shaking hands, and starting my long, cold, dark, (4 1/2 hour) return ride home. I made new friends! I'd do it again! Yeah! I'm just that crazy and thrilled with my new black 2000 Valk. How long had I owned her when I made that
journey? Try 13 days~yup! 13 whole, wonderful, thrilling days... (and
nights~LOL). Long live the Fat Lady. As we dined, one woman asked me,
"Do you do this very often?" "When the Spirit moves
me," I retorted. "group laughter". Ken B. (aka: Socrates)
