Memorial
Weekend 98 |
|
| Went to Stanley Starchers in Meigs county Ohio. This is a
annual event, 3 days of living in the dirt, field games, a 250 bike memorial run, and all
that other fun stuff you cant do inside the city limits. The first day was getting there and setting up home away from home. I rode down with one of the local Harley clubs. I hadnt ridden with these guys before so I wasnt sure what to expect. Turns out that patience was the order of the day. Took 5 hrs to go 70 miles. Well that was a new experience for me, but it was still motorcycling so I enjoyed it. I already had a spot claimed before I left home so no problem in the shade. Saturday night included some rather talented burn out people. One guy on a softail could shift through all the gears before the thing stalled out. Pretty impressive when you see it. He was careful to leave enough tread to get home onJ A few guys had troubles but it was all in good fun with no casualties. The evening carried on into the wee hours with a lot of lies being told and your favorite "refreshing summer time beverage" being served.
Sunday was the Memorial run that starts in Pomeroy Ohio, goes to a local pub then sort of disbands. I didnt think much of the run itself, other than 250 bikes is a good thing. I left early for the campgrounds where the field trials started. Slow Race, Weenie Bite, Balloon toss, and Panty Race. Just in case you are not familiar Ill briefly describe each one. Slow Race, a solo event, and is just that, first one across the finish loses. Weenie Bite is a two up event where the passenger stands up on the back while the driver, without putting his feet down stops under a hot dog hanging from a string and she takes as much of the hot dog at once as her talents allow. The shortest remaining Hot Dog wins.

Balloon Toss, the driver slowly drives under a
horizontal string, without putting his feet down, the passenger throws the water balloon
over the string catching it on the other side. This game repeats until all but one water
balloon is left. Panty Race, the passenger jumps off the bike, races the other passenger about 50 ft. puts on a pair of rather large panties runs back, gets on the bike and they all race to the finish line. It had rained the night before so the course was very slick with more mud coming up after each run. The riders were quite talented and negotiated the course without falling over or running into one another. One guy in the panty race was getting ready to leave, so when they finished their run he just took off down the road, the trouble was she still had the panties on! They came back a few minutes later to return the panties otherwise the event would have been over. I entered the last three events without winning a trophy but had a lot of fun. Later I tried going up the hill where I was camped but didnt have enough speed. I came over a sharp vertical mound on the hill, the bike needed more speed but opening the throttle spun out the back wheel. So when we all finished laughing I picked the thing up and with a little help and got it up to the tent. That night was another great party with fun had by all. Monday I headed home after negotiating a now muddy hill where I was camped. I headed down the muddy hill with rear breaks only, everything was fine until the bottom, it was pure mud, I had no steering control so all I could do was stay on top the thing until she finished slipping through the mud. Got very lucky on that one but from the top of the hill it looked like skill so the people that were watching gave a cheer Took Rt. 50 to 23 north to get home. Great scenery to finish the weekend, and after 3 days of living in the dirt, which became mud, I was ready for a shower Not a bad weekend, no casualties, good times with some great people, looking forward to next yearJ |
