ARE WE REALLY WELCOMED
IN CRAWFORD?
a little background on this article
The following is a post that showed up on F6Rider Readers Board. You can go there to see responses to this post. After reading this I am feeling a little guilty about horning in on the peace of Crawford. Would love others thoughts on this article. Ed. |
| I live in Crawford, My Family has been in Crawford for over 100 years. Most locals do NOT!!!!! like what Pam has done to Crawford. We liked it just the way it was, that's why we didn't change it. Why do you think she has to offer the locals a 10% discount? Because they wouldn't go in there otherwise! Motorcycles are way too noisy and all the people ruin the environment. Oh, by the way, it is not "Crawford Days" it is "Pioneer Days" and has been happening long before Pam came here. We never used to need a cop in town, but since Pam has publicized Crawford so much, now we do. Too bad. You used to be able to trust people because you knew everybody. Not any more. Pam doesn't know what it means to live in a small community and fit in. Again, too bad. Crawford is now going down hill. Quite frankly, I am not impressed by someone's ability to be bought. Money is not everything. I can speak for a large proportion of Crawford residents because, I have spoken to them. I don't care if people drink, do drugs, etc., I do care about the impact of too many people on an area that cannot support very many people to begin with. I do care about people's lack of responsibility for themselves and their actions. Tourism is NOT the only way people have ever made money here. I am concerned about a way of life. Have any of you, in all of your wonderful education, ever taken a Cultural Anthropology course? I get tired of tourists looking in the windows (for God's sake) of private homes. We are not a circus side show. Yes, things change, don't you think as intelligent beings, we have a responsibility to change things wisely? Not just to steamroller over things in the name of "progress." Remember, I LIVE here, I have a first hand view of what happens here, and how things were before Pam moved here. Pam's philanthropy serves Pam. She has not come into the community to become a part of it, but to become "Lady Bountiful." There are several professional people, such as doctors, lawyers, etc., who have moved here and become part of the community. They did not build ostentatious homes that require more water than this area has. They had no desire to teach us stupid hicks how things are done in the big city. They moved here because they liked Crawford for what it was and what it stands for. If Pam wanted a city, she should have moved to one. That's what I don't get, why would you move somewhere, only to change it into what you moved away from? There is a city outlook an things and a country outlook on things. This is a clash of cultures, and a truly sensitive person would not do things the way Pam has. Actions speak louder than words, and I get to see all the tiny actions that belie the grandiose gestures. Although I have nothing against motorcycles in general, I do get tired of them roaring into town, going way over the 25 mph speed limit. Violent crime is not a problem, people endangering the lives of people, livestock and pets because they drive like idiots are a problem. Pollution is a problem. Parking is a problem. Do you think that because you are yuppie baby boomers that you can take and exploit without thought of the consequences? Are you lacking in responsibility towards the ecosystem that supports you? Do you eat beef? Wear leather? We are a ranching community, and our product supplies some of your upkeep. We are not here for your entertainment. With your much vaunted intelligence and expensive education, can you look beneath what the media tells you, look beneath the shallow surface and see that there is more than the fulfillment of your most un-basic desires? Think! Wisdom comes from showing up for life! |
Hey this isn't going to be an invasion! We are just showing for lunch Sat afternoon. There will be some awards handed out and then we will head back to Montrose around 6:00. I am sorry to hear that Pam's enterprise has upset the local milieu, but there is nothing any of us here can do to help you with that. We hear that you have some nice scenery. I love scenery, I will be coming 2400 mi. to enjoy the view. I promise to behave and not peer in any windows. By The Way, don't you have the
equivalent of a planning board in your town? If this is such a problem I believe the
answer is there. There is nowhere these days that is not growing. My neighborhood has been
adding homes in the last few years, and I am not happy either, but I don't get angry at
the people who buy them! |
The VOA (Valkyrie Owners Association) is planning a Ride-In this July which is going to be great!. Although the actual Ride-In will be held in Montrose, Colorado there are some plans for a BBQ and visit to Crawford Colorado.
The Mad Dog Ranch Fountain Cafe seems to promote there business toward motorcyclists. As a matter of fact, F6Rider webzine has accepted stories about the Mad Dog Ranch Fountain Cafe. Got to admit after reading the above article, I have my doubts. Anyway for those of you who don't know what this is about there's a little explanation..... top
